In India, Post Graduate Programs in Geoinformatics / GIS & Remote Sensing



Many students of P.G. Diploma course in Applied Remote Sensing & GIS (Geoinformatics) which is conducted by CAD Centre, Jadavpur University frequently ask me the institutions name where they can further enhance their academic background in this field. So, I realize that I should do some web searching for them and this post is reflection of it.
First, presents the list of Universities in India which are offering full-time Master degree program in Geoinformatics.
  1. The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) offers 18 months M.Sc. program in Geoinformatics in collaboration with faculty of Geo-Information Science & Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente (UT), Netherlands.

  2. The Symbiosis Institute of Geoinformatics (SIG) offers M.Sc. in Geoinformatics.
  3. The Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K), an autonomous institute established by Govt. of Kerala, offers full-time 4-semester M.Sc. in Geoinformatics.

  4. The Dept. of Natural Resources, TERI University, New Delhi, offers program leading to the award of M.Sc. in Geoinformatics.

  5. The Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune, conducts a two year M.Sc. program in Geoinformatics.
  6. The Birla Institute of technology (BIT), Mesra, Ranchi, also offers M.Sc/M.Tech program in Geoinformatics, in their various branches. (But, I am not sure about the current status)  To see the current status of these courses visit http://www.bitmesra.ac.in/
  7. The Osmania University, Hyderabad offers full-time two year M.Sc. program in Geoinformatics. (do not found detail description about this course, so I am not certain about this course. Although they may later upload detail info, so time to time visit their site: http://www.osmania.ac.in/

  13. The University of Burdwan is Introducing full-time Post Graduate Course in Geospatial Science at the Department of Geography from the session 2015-2017. Intending candidates are to apply for the programme on payment of Rs. 200/- by logging into the University website (www.buruniv.ac.in) from 20th November, 2015 to 26th November, 2015. Total Intake 20, General-12, SC-4, ST-1, OBC-A-1, OBC-B-1, SP-1, DA (3% of total seats of each of General, SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B categories).

Next, is the name of the universities those are offering Distance mode M.Sc. Program in Geoinformatics.
  1. In distance mode, Annamalai University offers two year M.Sc. program in Geoinformatics.
    Eligibility: A pass in any U.G. degree programme in Science/ Engg./ Agriculture.

Finally, presents the list of Universities that are offering full time M.Tech program in Geoinformatics.
  1. The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) offers two-years M.Tech in Remote Sensing and GIS applications in collaboration with Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.

  2. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given approval to Symbiosis Institute of Geoinformatics for starting two year full-time M. Tech Program in Geoinformatics w. e. f. the session 2012-13, with an intake of 20 students.   3. The Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar has started two years M.Tech (Geoinformatics) program from the academic year 2009-10 in collaboration with Haryana Space Application Centre (HARSAC) with an intake of 30 students per year.   4. The Karnataka State Remote Sensing Applications Centre (KSRSAC) initiated an accredited M.Tech Program in Geoinformatics, in association with the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum, and Survey of India (SOI) from the academic year 2004-05.See the Brochure of the course in pdf format:
